A wedding highlight film combines real moments, speech, atmosphere and music. The track should support the couple’s story without covering the vows or making every part of the day feel the same. Before selecting music, think about the finished film and where the couple plans to share it.

Review the footage and decide what the highlight is about. It might focus on the ceremony, the couple’s personalities, family moments or the energy of the reception. Use that idea to guide the soundtrack.

A gentle opening can give room to establish the setting. The music can build as the edit moves into celebration, then settle again for a closing moment. Avoid forcing every shot to match a beat if it interrupts the natural flow.

Vows, speeches and candid moments are often the most personal parts of the film. Choose music that leaves space for those recordings. Lower the track under speech and let important words land clearly.

Listen for changes in the arrangement. A simpler section can work well under vows, while a fuller part may suit a dance sequence. You can use one track or combine cues, but make transitions feel intentional.

A couple may also want a short social teaser or vertical edit. These are separate deliverables to consider when checking your music permissions. Confirm whether the licence covers the intended edits and channels. Don’t assume a licence for one final film automatically covers every promotional version.

Confirm who is licensing the track and what uses are permitted. If you’re a freelance filmmaker, agree with the couple on who will retain the licence documentation and whether it will be shared with them.

Save the track title and licence alongside the project files. If the couple asks for a new cut later, you can review the original permission before reusing the music.

Music creates a frame around the footage, but natural sound can make the film feel personal. Keep a little room for applause, laughter, room ambience or a meaningful line. The soundtrack should help those moments stay with viewers.
