Check for Variable Frame Rate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your phone or screen recording starts in sync but the sound gradually drifts away from the picture during editing, <strong>variable frame rate (VFR)<\/strong> is one possible cause. Some recording devices change the number of frames captured each second to manage movement, light or file size. Some editing workflows handle that timing less predictably than a constant frame-rate file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VFR is a possible cause, not a diagnosis by itself. Audio can drift for other reasons too, including mismatched sample rates, incorrect clip interpretation, sync problems in the original recording or export settings. Check the media before changing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What variable frame rate means<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A constant-frame-rate file aims to keep a steady frame interval throughout the recording. With variable frame rate, the time between frames can change. This can help a device manage a recording, but an editing application has to interpret those changing intervals while keeping the audio aligned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adobe\u2019s guidance for Premiere notes that VFR footage can be associated with audio sync problems and recommends converting variable-frame-rate media to constant frame rate for workflows where that is needed. That does not mean every editor or every VFR clip will fail; software support changes, and results depend on the file and application version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to check a clip<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, play the original file in more than one player and check whether the sound is already drifting. Then inspect the file\u2019s frame-rate mode in your editing software or media-information tool. Some tools label it \u201cvariable\u201d or \u201cVFR\u201d; the nominal rate shown in a basic file summary may not tell you whether the rate stays constant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the original plays correctly but the edit drifts, try a short section in a new test project. Confirm the sequence frame rate, make sure the clip has not been interpreted at a different rate, and test a short export. This helps separate a source problem from a timeline or export setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you transcode, protect the original<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the clip is VFR and the editor continues to produce drift, transcode a <strong>copy<\/strong> to a constant frame rate that matches the intended timeline or delivery. Keep the original file, compare the converted copy, and check both picture and audio over the full duration before replacing media in a project. Transcoding changes the media file and can affect quality, metadata or file size, so use settings that fit the delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not repeatedly nudge the audio by eye if the drift increases over time; a small offset at the start will not correct a timing difference that grows through the clip. If conversion does not solve the problem, check for other sync causes or consult the current documentation for your editor and recording device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the picture and sound line up, music and sound effects can help complete the edit.
