If you’d take a tent in a muddy field over a sun lounger at a resort, this is a big weekend for you. Download<\/a> festival is returning, but will others?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The heavy rock UK festival was called off in March this year, like so many others. But, in a twist of fate, the UK government gave Download festival the green light to go ahead this year. The event is part of a test to see how Covid-19 transmission works in large crowds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans will attend the full three days of the festival, from 18th June – 20th June, with no social distancing or face coverings. Capacity has been reduced from 111,000 to just 10,000, but the big news? Moshing will be allowed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have been similar test events in other countries, like The Flaming Lips performing to a crowd encased in bubbles<\/a>. In Liverpool, test events, including two large nightclub events and a gig from Blossoms, went off with apparent success. There has since been no detectable spread of the virus<\/a> as a result of the events. If this test festival suggests such events won’t contribute to another spike in Covid-19 cases, the festival calendar in the UK this year could look a little less depressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headliners for the Download festival pilot include Enter Shikari and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes. With over 40 other bands performing at a cloudy but fairly warm Donnington Park, this weekend could be set to be a British festival classic!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
