Multiply your content: How to turn your video into multiple clips
The pressure on content creators today is more than it ever was, with YouTube wanting consistent 10-minute-plus uploads, TikTok needing daily verticals, Instagram followers expecting that new reel, and then there’s YouTube Shorts to top it all off.
Trying to create an original idea or piece of content for each one would leave you on a fast track to burnout. So don’t film more, get your existing content to work harder for you.
Content repurposing is the ultimate cheat code to meeting the demands of all the different platforms at once. If you take a single piece of high effort, long form content and chop it into high-impact short “moments” you suddenly have a bunch of content to fit into your content calendar.
So stop filming new content for each of these platforms today and show you exactly how you turn that video that took you ages to make into a bunch of useful short clips.
Find micro-moments
If you’re already making 10-minute long-form videos, the chances are there are going to be dozens of micro moments that exist in your content that can stand on their own already.

Some examples might be:
- The Hot Take: A moment in your video where you make an opinionated or surprising statement.
- The Punchline: Something funny that happened, or even a blooper from part of the video that didn’t make the final cut.
- The “How-to” Step: A single takeaway from the video at large, or an isolated actionable tip from a longer tutorial.
- The high retention spike: Look at your video analytics, where did the retention graph spike? Sometimes, this can give you insight into some juicy clips.
Manal vs AI approach
When you’ve picked your moments, it’s time to cut them. Nowadays, you have two options available to you:

- Manual: If you want full control, go this route. After manually changing the aspect ratio, you then reframe your shots so the action you want to capture stays in the centre of your frame. Add your own captions and set the pacing. It’s more time-consuming, but ultimately, the quality is unmatched.
- AI: New AI tools on the block are changing the game. Now you can simply drop your video into the tool, and the AI will auto-scan for virality potential. Will then cut the content for you, re-frame it vertically and add dynamic captions, all in a few moments. This isn’t always the perfect option, but if you’re in a bind, then this can provide some content quickly.
Optimise for vertical
A clip isn’t always ready to upload just because it’s vertical. You have to optimise it for short-form platforms first.

- Aggressive Hook: You have 1.5 seconds to stop the viewer from scrolling. Cut out any dead air and start the clip at the exact point of most impact.
- Dynamic Captions: Many people watch short-form content with their sound off. Animated captions are mandatory to keep viewers engaged.
- Use Audio (Safely): This is the single biggest pitfall for creators.
License music to reduce risk

The problem with clip farming is that when you multiply your clips, you multiply your copyright risk.
A track that is safe to use from the YouTube audio library isn’t automatically safe to use on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or Facebook. When you chop one video into several clips and “spray and pray” them across three different platforms, you are exposing yourself to three different Content Recognition systems.
Getting a strike on YouTube is bad. Getting muted on TikTok is frustrating. Getting claimed on Instagram is annoying. Getting all three at once is a disaster for your growth.
So if you’re serious about using the content multiplier strategy, you need a multi-platform insurance policy. This is why we built RouteNote Licensing.
Every single track in our catalogue is fully cleared for commercial use across all major platforms. You can grab a track for a Tech Short, push that clip to Reels, TikTok, and YouTube, and sleep peacefully knowing your monetisation is protected everywhere. Don’t build an empire of content on a shaky foundation of “no copyright” music you found in a random forum. Get properly licensed and work smarter.
Stop risking your channel’s revenue and momentum on a flawed system.
RouteNote Licensing guarantees that the music you license is protected from Content ID claims, allowing you to focus on what you do best: creating great content.
