Collections are one of the most useful features in RouteNote Licensing. Think of them as folders that live directly within the platform, helping you organise content more effectively. While there are already hundreds of ready-made collections covering a wide range of applications, you also have the flexibility to create your own.

In this post, we’ll show you how to create your own collections and explore why building a personalised set of collections can boost your efficiency.

What is a collection

A collection is a simple and effective way to store and organise songs and sound effects. We’ve built an extensive library of curated collections spanning a wide range of subjects, themes, and moods, designed to spark instant inspiration when you need the right audio for a specific project. Whether you’re after eerie atmospheres, romantic tracks, retro arcade sounds, or laid-back evening playlists, there’s something ready to go.

But, while some of these may fit your needs, collections really come into their own when you take control. Custom collections let you organise audio around your exact needs, so it’s worth thinking about the different styles and requirements your content calls for. Once set up, they’re easy to update and refine, growing alongside your projects as a dynamic, evolving resource.

How to create your own custom collections

The process of creating and building your own custom collections is simple. First navigate to My Collections. This can be found in the drop down below My Account.

click My collections to bring up your My Collections page. This is where all of your collections can be found and accessed.

To create a new collection select Create New Collection

All you need to do now is add a name and description. You can even create a custom thumbnail to accompany the collection. Just aim for a square ratio image thats no less than 500×500 pixels. If you do not wish to add a custom thumbnail simply press save and your custom collection will appear in your My Collections page.

You have now successfully created a collection. Now to fill it with music or sound effects. Navigate to the music selection and browse away. As soon as you come across a track that you think will suit a collection click on the plus button (see below)

This will bring up your add to collection page. In the field that says Collection press the down arrow. This will bring up a list of all your collections as well as a search bar. The search feature is handy when you have a large number of collections and are searching for a specific one.

Click the collection or collections that you wish to add the track too. You will see the names of the collection(s) appear above the collections box. Once you have selected the destination collection press save and it will appear in your selected collection(s).

Why is it useful to have a personalised set of collections?

Finding the perfect music for your content when faced with so many options can feel overwhelming. When you’re browsing, it’s common to come across tracks you really like that just don’t fit your current brief…yet. Collections solve this by giving you a place to save those discoveries for future use, so nothing gets lost or forgotten.

Over time, adopting a collections-based workflow transforms your library into a highly personalised space, where the perfect track is often just a quick scroll away. The more you organise and compartmentalise your collections into clear themes, moods, or project types, the more effective this workflow becomes. Because you can continuously add, refine, and reorganise them, your collections remain flexible, growing and evolving alongside your creative projects.

And it’s not just about music. RouteNote Licensing also features over 20,000 sound effects, opening up even more possibilities. You can create tailored collections for atmospheres, nature sounds, whooshes, impacts, sci-fi elements, and more, making it even easier to build a complete, ready-to-use audio toolkit.

Some ideas for useful collection themes

While your collections should be highly specific to the content you create and your audio requirements, here are a few suggestions for useful collections.

Tracks for future use: Create a folder for new music discoveries. You could even create a folder for different music catagories such as vocal, instrumental, background themes, titles, stingers etc

Project collections: Create a custom collection when working on a new project. Save all the music that you use in this project as well as any potential ones. These can be used on a temporary basis whilst working on a specific project.

Favourite Artists collection: With so many artists on RouteNote Licensing it’s important to have a way to log the ones that you connect with. As soon as you come across an artist who’s production, style or songwriting you enjoy, stick a track of theirs in this collection. It is then easy to search their entire catalogue from this one track by clicking on their name.

Moods Collections: Create separate collections for saving tracks that suit particular moods. For example, drama and tension, Happy and uplifting. soft ambient. etc

Stop risking your channel’s revenue and momentum on a flawed system.

RouteNote Licensing guarantees that the music you license is protected from Content ID claims, allowing you to focus on what you do best: creating great content.
