Nikon announced the NIKKOR Z 120–300mm f/2.8 TC VR S on 29 October 2026. The full-frame Z-mount zoom has a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture and a built-in 1.4× teleconverter that extends its reach to 420mm. Nikon positions it for sports photography, but the focal range may also interest video crews covering distant action or events. See Nikon’s announcement.

What the specifications mean

The lens covers 120–300mm without changing lenses, and its built-in teleconverter adds reach with a single control. Nikon says the maximum aperture becomes f/4 when the teleconverter is engaged. It lists vibration reduction performance of up to 6.5 stops when paired with a camera that supports Synchro VR; that figure is based on Nikon’s stated test conditions, so it should not be read as a guarantee for every camera or video shot.

The lens weighs approximately 2,735g. That is substantial kit for handheld work, so a tripod, monopod or support rig may be part of the overall setup. A longer focal length can make distant subjects fill more of the frame, but it also makes framing and camera movement more sensitive.

Price and availability are not yet confirmed

Nikon’s 29 October announcement does not state a retail price or an on-sale date. It calls the lens released, but creators should check Nikon’s regional product pages or an authorised retailer for current ordering details rather than assume it is already available to buy.

For a production team, the useful next step is to check mount compatibility, support requirements, focus operation and the camera’s stabilisation options. If you are filming fast action, test the complete camera-and-lens setup before an important shoot. This is a specialist lens; most creators do not need a 420mm reach for ordinary social video, interviews or indoor tutorials.
